La Cueva del Frío - The Cold Cave

Me encanta bucear. Me cuesta decir que una inmersión me parece o no bonita, porque la sola experiencia de ingravidez ya me parece fascinante. Si además tienes la posibilidad de adentrarte en un nuevo mundo… pues qué te voy a contar!!

Pero hay inmersiones que son especiales, y lugares que marcan una diferencia. Ya veréis que para mí el Cabo de Gata es mi lugar especial, y dentro del parque hay inmersiones que hacen que los ojos me brillen cuando el barquero dice: “hoy vamos a…”

Una de esas inmersiones es la Cueva del Frío. Es un poco como Santillana del Mar, de la que dicen que ni es santa, ni llana, ni tiene mar. Bueno pues aquí la cueva no es cueva, y frío… pues depende de la termoclina, pero no es la inmersión más fría que conozco, la verdad.

El paisaje y el recorrido es increíble. Normalmente se fondea en un circo rodeado de montañitas, a unos 6 metros más o menos y comienzas la inmersión por un cañón, con vida a los lados, debajo y sobre ti. Disfruto yendo muy despacito, porque no me quiero perder nada. El cañón termina en una explanada de arena, y si vas hacia la derecha, vas encontrándote con entradas a otros cañones, y las paredes de las montañitas están repletas de vida: esponjas, espirógrafos, astroides, nudibranquios…

Frente a ti está la cueva, bueno la cavidad. Suele tener mucha vida, y peces de distintos colores. A la vuelta, en vez de volver por el cañón anterior, puedes ir por otro que termina en un sifón precioso. Si es un día de sol, cuando asciendes por el sifón, sientes el sol en la cara, y la luz es preciosa. Vuelves haciendo la parada de seguridad a 5 metros, y te puedes encontrar con bancos de sargos, salpas, y morenas escondidas entre las cavidades. Y la posidonia, meciéndose con el vaivén del mar…

Mientras estuve haciendo el curso de divemaster, nunca conseguía terminar el recorrido como os lo he contado, pero la última vez que la hice, por fin me aclaré. Y es una delicia!!
Anoche mi novio me dijo que quería irse a bucear, hoy nos conformaremos con recordar la cueva del frío, pero el viernes nos pondremos rumbo al Mediterráneo. Menos mal que no vivo en Austria, porque me moriría de la pena, tan lejos del mar… Que paséis un gran fin de semana, y contadme alguna de vuestras inmersiones favoritas!!

I love diving. It is hard for me to say that one dive is beautiful or not, because just the non gravity feeling, it is fascinating. But, as you have the opportunity of exploring a new world… I have no words!!

But, in fact, there are dives specials for each one, and places which make a difference. You will see soon that Cabo de Gata is my special place, and between others, there are particular dives which make my eyes sparkling when I hear to the boatman: “Today we will go to…”

One of those dives is the Cold Cave. As what people say about Santillana del Mar (it is not saint (santi) it is not plain (llana) and it has no sea (del Mar), in this case it is not a real cave, and about the feeling of cold… well it depends on the water, but it is not the coldest dive I have ever done.

The landscape and the route is unbelievable. Normally the boat is anchored in a circus around little mountains, 6 meters deep, and you start the dive through a canyon with live between, below and above you. I enjoy going very slow, because I do not want to miss anything. The canyon finishes in a sand esplanade, and if you turn to your right, you will find the entries of new canyons, and the walls at your right are full of life: sponges, spirographis (it is the Latin entry, I could not find the word in English, my apologies) coral polyps, seaslugs.

In front of you, there is the cave, well the cavity. It normally has much live, and fishes of different colors. As you return, you can change the previous canyon for another that finishes with a beautiful chimney. If it is a sunny day, as you ascend you can feel the sun in your face, and the light is awesome. During the return you are doing the 5 meters safety stop while you can find groups of seabreams, salemas and morays hidden on the cavities. And the posidonia, gently waving with the roling of the sea…

While I was doing my divemaster course, I never could make the complete route as I have explained, but last time I dived there finally I was able. And it is so delicious!!

Last night my boyfriend told me he wanted to go diving, today will be enough remembering the Cold Cave, but next Friday we will to the Mediterranean. Thank God I do not live in Austria, because I would die of sadness, so far of the sea… Have a great weekend, and please share with me your favorite dives!!!
