(1) – How can I choose where take the diving course? (1)

Hola chicos!

Hi guys! Thanks for being one more day on the other side.

I have realised that when you say that you are diving instructor, everybody makes a thousand questions about the open water. Some of you, due to this blog, have already asked me.

It would be unappropiate f I say you could do the course with me, but today I would like to clarify what should be included on a diving course, and what is left. Most of this info apply to next courses, but this is something for tomorrow.

What is left is more than 4 students per instructor. I have to confess that watching divers on the first open water dive is like trying to control triplets close to a hot iron, almost impossible. You have to consider that with more attention, faster is the learning.

What a course should include (at least on my opinion): (1) Somebody who can teach you. PADI, the biggest organization certificating divers, has a learning system on line, I think it is good to have somebody “real” who can explain you clearly the theory. (2) Confined water, a basic for adapting yourself to the water on a friendly environment. (3) You have to do 4 dives on open water. This means prepare your equipment, dive, and clean the equipment, with a minimum of 30 minutes per dive. (4) An insurance covering accidents during the course. (5) in 30 days after finishing, you should receive the certification at home. If some step is lost, then the course is not good.

Finally, I recommend to ask around you. For sure you know any diver, and can recommend you. I have seen people with just one dive on the course, with the certification raised. Without confined waters, without theory, without 4 dives. It is a serious matter, and you have to learn correctly. If you receive a course without these requirements, if I were you I will inform PADI about this instructor that does not follow the rules.

Here you have some photos from my Almería, I have in mind going on Friday, but it seems that the east winds have another thing in mind… I will tell you what I will do. Have a nice Tuesday and let’s continue tomorrow.
