Jugando con el ojo de pez – Playing with the fish-eye

La verdad es que Filipinas es un destino para hacer fotos tipo macro, pero como quería probar el frontal de ojo de pez, un día por la tarde nos fuimos al arrecife frente al hotel, a probarlo.

Me gusta la forma en que amplía el campo y distorsiona los extremos de la fotografía. Me hubiera gustado haber podido hacer algún pecio con este objetivo, seguramente el resultado habría sido excelente.

Os dejo con alguna instantánea. Ya me contaréis qué os parece.

La verità è che le Filippine è una destinazione per le foto di tipo macro, ma ho voluto provare il fish-eye front, un giorno, nel pomeriggio siamo andati alla barriera corallina di fronte all'hotel, per dimostrarlo.

Mi piace come si estende il campo e distorce i bordi della fotografia. Vorrei era riuscito a fare qualche relitto con questo obiettivo, sicuramente il risultato sarebbe stato eccellente.

In fact, the Philippines is a destination for macro photos, but as I wanted to test the fish eye frontal, one afternoon we made a shore dive from the hotel to the reef to do it.

I like the way of extending the focus, and how distorts the end of the photo. I would like to have dived on a wreck with the fish eye, for sure the result is excellent.

Mandarin: Una noche para recordar – a night to remember

El pez mandarín es una de las atracciones más buscadas en la zona del Pacífico. Debe su nombre al gran colorido de su cuerpo, que recuerda a los trajes que todos tenemos en mente si pensamos en un “mandarin”.

Dicen que en Lembeh debes pagar un extra de 50 euros para acudir a una zona en la que viven peces mandarín. Nosotros en Filipinas pudimos verlo, eso sí, con la ayuda de nuestro guía.

Hay un intervalo muy específico en el que aparecen, en Moalboal es a partir de las 5:30 de la tarde, y por no mas de 30 minutos. Los machos realizan un ritual de cortejo de las hembras, hasta que se escogen mutuamente, y durante unos segundos experimentan un éxtasis “de amor” en el que juntos se elevan moviendo rápidamente sus aletas laterales. Es un espectáculo fantástico, pero difícil de ver, puesto que se mueven con gran rapidez, y la luz que se debe utilizar tiene que ser tenue e indirecta.

Os dejo hoy un pequeño vídeo, difícil de enfocar constantemente para una novata, pero que creo que capta perfectamente la esencia. Disfrutadlo!!

Mandarin fish is one of the highlights most interesting on the Pacific area. It receives the name for being so colorful, reminding the suits we have in mind when we think on “the mandarin guys”.

It is known than in Lembeh you have to pay an extra 50 euros for visiting an area where mandarin fishes live. We could see them in Philippines, but, of course, with the help of our guide.

There is a very specific slot when they appear, in Moalboal is round 17:30, and for not more than 30 minutes. Males make like a courtship ritual around females, until they choose one each other, and for a few seconds they experiment like a “love ecstasies” while they raise together moving really fast the lateral fins. It is an splendid show, but hard to see, because they are incredibly fast, and the light used has to be indirect and soft.

Here you have a short video, it was very hard to focus being so new on this business, but I think you can feel the essence. Enjoy it!!

La paz de las tortugas - Peaceful turtles

No lo puedo negar, las tortugas me cautivan. No se si es por su capacidad centenaria, por su elegancia moviéndose, por sus ojos tristes... La semana pasada pudimos acercarnos a muchas, y fue una experiencia muy emocionante.

I can not deny it, turtles captivate me. I am not sure if it is for their long age, the elegant movements, their sad eyes... Last week we could be closed to various, and it was an exciting experience.

Caballito pigmeo, buscando a Wally – Pigmy SeaHorse, looking for Wally

En nuestra primera inmersión en Filipinas, lo primero que vimos (bueno, que vió el guía) fue un caballito pigmeo.

Realmente, es una cuestión de fe, cuando el guía apunta a una pequeña irregularidad en una gorgonia. –su truco son más de 30 años de buceo y una máscara con cristales de aumento. Yo, la primera vez, fui incapaz de hacer una foto definida con un objetivo macro de 18-55 mm.

Aquí os dejo lo que he conseguido, después de mucho tiempo delante de la gorgonia. La primera foto es con el máximo aumento posible que permitió una imagen definida, el resto, el zoom en Photoshop. Conseguir distinguirlos es como encontrar a Wally entre 300 personas, una vez identificado, te sientes muy, muy bien!!







On our first dive in Philippines, the first thing we saw (being realistic, the guide saw) was a Pigmy SeaHorse.

In fact, this is a question of faith, when the guide marked a small irregularity on the gorgonian. His tricks are more than 30 years of diving and a mask with macro lens. Mine, well, the first time I was not able of doing a decent photo with a macro lens of 18-55 mm.

Here you have what I could do, after a long time in front of the gorgonian. The first photo the biggest enlargement I could obtain with enough definition, the rest, the zoom of Photoshop. To succeed distinguishing is like finding Wally around 300 people, and once you see it, you feel really great!!

Sampaguita Resort

Los días antes de las vacaciones en Sampaguita Resort, estaba realmente agobiada. Intensos días de trabajo en la oficina, muchos correos y tensión en casa intentando dejar listo un evento muy importante para verano… en fin, que necesitaba desconectar.

Y si eso es lo que buscas, además de un buceo excepcional, el Sampaguita Resort lo cubre perfectamente. Cabañas muy cómodas, a menos de 50 metros del mar, sin televisión y con un Internet muy precario, lo que hace que te olvides del resto del mundo.

Un trato cálido y atención constante caracterizan a los empleados, buena comida y un ambiente excepcional. Yo descansé muchísimo, y además, gracias a estar con 20 italianos todo el día, incluso creo que he aprendido un poco de italiano. Es una lástima que esté tan lejos de Cebú, aunque eso hace de el un lugar paradisiaco. Totalmente recomendable y yo repito seguro.







Days before vacation in Sampaguita Resort, I was very overwhelmed. There were intense days at the office, a lot of emails and tension at home, trying to organize a very important event for this summer… Anyway, I needed to disconnect.

And if this is what you need, and in addition an exceptional diving, Sampaguita Resort covers it perfectly. Very comfortables cabins, less than 50 meters from sea, without TV and with a precarious internet, what makes you forget the rest of the world.

Warm treatment and constant attention characterizes the employees, good food and an exceptional atmosphere. I really rest, and besides, thanks of being with 20 Italian divers, I have even learned some Italian. It is very sad to be so far of Cebú, but maybe this makes of it a paradisiacal place. Totally recommendable and I will repeat for sure.

Hand lugagge, o el bolso de Mary Poppins

Acabo de llegar de un viaje muy muy largo, y he pensado que era una buena oportunidad para contaros las prestaciones de mi nueva mochila de equipaje de mano. Es una LowePro, diseñada para equipo de fotografía, y como es resistente y blandita a la vez, es perfecta para el resto de equipo de buceo.

La mía es la Vertex 200 AW y estoy encantadísima con ella. Aunque parece un poco aparatosa al principio, no genera ningún problema de facturación, pues cumple con margen con las medidas de equipaje de mano. Obviamente, con el contenido es difícil tenerla por debajo de los 10 kg, pero siendo buceadores, y llegando los primeros al check-in, no hay problema.

En este viaje, llevaba: reguladores, transmisor, ordenador de buceo con pulsómetro, kindle, iPad, tapones para los oidos, 2 tarjetas de memoria, MacBook Air 11”, cargador del portátil, funda y disco duro, iPhone y su cargador, cámara Sony Nex 5N, con gran angular, 18-55 y ojo de pez, flash y cable conexión con el ordenador carcasa Nauticam, frontal macro y frontal de ojo de pez, pañuelos de papel, cacao, un bolígrafo, gafas de sol y pasaporte. Ah, y un pequeño souvenir del aeropuerto de Doha. Tiene capacidad, ¿verdad? ¿qué usáis vosotros para todo el equipaje de mano?







I have just arrived from a long, long trip, and it would be a good idea to show you the properties of my hand luggage. I have a LowePro bagpack, designed for photography equipment, and as it is resistant and soft at the same time, it is perfect for my diving gear.

Mine is Vertex 200 AW, and I am very happy with it. At first it seems too big, but it does not create any problem on check in, because it fits on the hand luggage measures. Of course, with the content it is difficult not passing 10 kg, but being divers and arriving the first on the check in line, there is no problem at all.

The content on this trip was the following: regulators, transmitter, diving computer with heart rate monitor, Kindle, iPad, earplugs, 2 memory cards, MacBook Air 11”, charger, sleeve, hard disk, iPhone and charger, camera Sony Nex 5N, wide angle lens, 18-55 mm and fish eye, cable connector, Nauticam housing, macro frontal, fish eye frontal, handkerchief, gloss, pen, sunglasses and passport. Oh, and an small souvenir from Doha airport. It really has capacity, right? What do you use for your hand luggage?

Pues aunque parecía increíble, al final llegamos al Sampaguita Resort, con un autobús de italianos, alegres y muy divertidos.

Hoy hemos hecho nuestras primeras inmersiones y la verdad es que el lugar es estupendo. Y no podemos pedir más, en la primera inmersión el caballito pigmeo (no fui capaz de hacerle una buena foto), en la segunda un pez rana (que os adjunto) y en la nocturna 5 tortugas… Lástima que no llevaba la cámara encima. Pero como ya sabemos dónde duermen, mañana volveremos por allí.

El agua estupenda, 28 grados y el mar una balsa. Además un guía estupendo y una comida deliciosa. ¿alguien da más?




Well, even when we thought it was unbelievable, finally we arrived to Sampaguita Resort, with a bus full of Italians, joyful and very amusing.

Today we made our first dives, and to be honest the place is awesome. We can not ask for anything else, in the first dive the pigmy horse (but I was not able to take a decent photo), on the second dive a frog fish (you have it above) and on the night dive 5 turtles… it was a pity that I did not bring my camera. But as we know where they rest, tomorrow we will come back.

The water is delicious, 28ºC degrees and the sea does not move. And we have a great guide and delicious food, anything else??
